Softball sweeps St. Ben's

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg softball team (12-9 overall) swept Saint Benedict's (2-11) Friday. The Knights won the opener 7-1, and held on to win the finale, 6-5.

  • The Knights plated five in the frame

  • The Bennies scored their lone run

  • St. Ben's took the early 2-0 lead with a two-run shot over the left field fence
Second
  • CSB had bases loaded with two outs. The next batter flew out to center to leave them stranded.
  • Tarah Wehde launched one over the left field fence to slice the margin in half.
Third
  • The Bennies had another two-run homer over the left field line to make it 4-1.
  • Fellows scored on Link's single. Wiebenga scored taking advantage of the error to make it 4-3.
  • Link evens it as she capitalized on another error.
  • Pinch-hitter Rylie Metz drove in the go-ahead run on her sacrifice fielder's choice that plated pinch runner Ally Happ.

  • St. Ben's threatened again as bases were loaded with two outs. Nelson got a huge strikeout as the batter was called out on strikes.
  • Wartburg added another as Wehde scored on Springer's fielders choice

  • The Bennies had bases loaded with two outs. The next two batters were retired to quell the threat

  • St. Ben's plates one on an RBI groundout
