Knights Sweep Storm

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg softball team (18-11 overall, 6-2 American Rivers) swept Simpson 5-4 and 5-0.

Game one
First
  • Wartburg got on the board on a sac fly from Sydney Fellows
  • Ella Link hit a double to left center which plated Reaga Hnassel for early 2-0 lead
Third
  • Storm were being no-hit until a leadoff double to left center field.
Fourth
  • Simpson hit an RBI single and sac fly to tie it at 2-2
Five
  • An RBI triple to right center gives Simpson the 3-2 lead
Seven
  • Simpson moves to 4-2 on a suicide squeeze
  • Alvarado scores on Kaylie Springer's triple to left center to make it 4-3.
  • Hassel hits the first pitch she sees to center field to tie it as springer scores
  • The next batter, Fellows, takes the first pitch she sees to center field to bring in Hassel from second for the walkoff win.
 

Second game
Second
  • Link steals home for 1-0 lead
Third
  • Simpson had a runner on third with two outs. The next batter grounded out to strand her on third.
  • RBI single from Link to make it 2-0
Fourth
  • Storm looked to score again as bases were loaded with two outs. The next batter grounded out to short to end the threat
Fifth
  • Simpson looked to score again as bases were loaded with one out. The next batter flew out to right and runner was thrown out at the plate for the frame-ending double play.
  • Link hits a two-run homer off the scoreboard
Six
  • Springer drove in Bredar on her single to second
