Springer sets stolen base record in sweep over Buena Vista

WAVERLY, Iowa-- Kaylie Springer set the school record with five stolen bases in the first game against Buena Vista Saturday. The old mark of four was previously achieved four times:
 4             Kailee O'Brien vs. Monmouth, 3/5/19
 4             Liz Roby-Miklus vs. Lebanon Valley, 3/9/19
4             Liz Roby-Miklus vs. #20 UW-Oshkosh, 3/24/19
4             Alicia Cox vs. Elizabethtown, 3/7/03

The Knights won 14-10 and 13-5 (5 innings).

First game
First inning
  • BV took early 1-0 lead on sac fly
  • The Knights reclaimed the 3-1 lead with RBI singles from Springer, Ella Link and a sac bunt from Tarah Wehde. 
 Second
  • The Orange and Black doubled their run total in the frame
  • Ally Happ was hit by pitch, stole second, stole third and scored on wild pitch
  • Sydney Fellows drove in Springer and Reagan Hassel on her single to right field.
Third
  • BV scores two on bases loaded error and RBI single to short

  • BV takes the lead on a grand slam, to make it 7-6
  • Link hits a two-run single up the middle for the go-ahead runs at 8-7

  • Successful squeeze from pinch hitter Riley Metz

  • Springer set the school record with her fifth stolen base. The previous mark of 4 was accomplished four times.
