Women's Soccer Fall to St. Olaf 1-0 in Season Opener

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Women's soccer fell to St. Olaf College 1-0 on the road in a competitive season-opening match on Friday, Aug. 30.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Lauren Kirkle had the first scoring opportunity for the Knights when her long-range free kick was saved in the 11th minute
    • Each offense was able to record shots over the next 15 minutes, but none were on target and the match remained 0-0
    • The tie was broken in the 33rd minute when St. Olaf's Emily Johnson rocketed a deep shot into the top left corner of the goal to make it 1-0
    • The Knights had a scoring opportunity in the 38th minute when Abigail Milburn's shot missed just a bit high
    • Sami Webster put a shot on goal in the final minute before half, but it was saved by St. Olaf to keep the score 1-0 headed into the half
  • Second Half
    • Mackenzie Ceschan started the second half with a save in the 48th minute and then another in the 51st minute
    • After a Nikayla Youngblut shot was blocked, Kirkle was able to put a shot on goal but it was saved by the Oles
    • Minutes later it was Kirkle with another shot on goal that was again saved by St. Olaf
    • Ceschan made two more saves in the 73rd and 75th minutes to keep the score 1-0
    • Natalie Thiesfeld was able to get open for a shot on goal in the 84th minute but was unable to beat the keeper
    • St. Olaf held off Wartburg to win 1-0
