Augsburg Holds Off Men's Soccer for 2-1 Win

WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's soccer fell to Augsburg University 2-1 on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Salzwedel Field after a late charge from the Knights was stopped by the Auggies. The Knights are now 1-2-1 overall while the Auggies move to 3-1-1 overall.
 
Match Summary
  • First Half
    • Both Itsuki Ebisawa and Hunter Yeatts began the match with shot attempts that just missed the target
    • A Wartburg corner kick made its way to Ratzer who attempted a header that was well defended and blocked by Augsburg
    • Henry Eckert made the first save of the match in the 21st minute after a shot attempt from the Auggies
      • Made another save minutes later following a corner kick
    • The Knights saw a good opputnity in the 28th minute after Flori Gembo put a shot on goal after a corner kick that was saved and deflected to Landon Hartsell for an off-target shot
    • Minutes later both Carson Kay and Hartsell had shots on goal saved by Augsburg following another corner kick for the Orange & Black
    • Ausgburg converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute for the only score of the half
  • Second Half
    • Wartburg opened the half with three corner kick opportunities in the first 10 minutes
    • In the 56th minute Augsburg's passing led to another score to put the Auggies ahead 2-0
    • Ratzer took and scored a penalty kick for the Knights in the 81st minute to cut the Augsburg lead in half
    • Despite shots from Ratzer, Kaeleb Wendy and Aidan Mott the Auggies were able to hold off the Knights for a 2-1 win
