Knights Defeat Dominican University 3-1 on the Road

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Women's soccer won its second match in as many days after defeating Dominican University (Ill.) 3-1 on the road Sunday, Sept. 8. The win moves Wartburg to 2-2 overall and drops the Stars to 0-4 overall.

  • First Half
    • Dominican had three shot attempts in the first 10 minutes, but none were shot on target
    • Maddy Badding recorded the first shot on goal for the Knights in the 10th minute that was saved by the Stars
    • After back-and-forth play, Mackenzie Ceschan made saves in the 22nd and 24th minutes to keep the match scoreless
    • Wartburg broke the tie when Claudia Sewell finished a Abigail Milburn pass in the 36th minute to put Wartburg ahead 1-0
    • Ceschan made two more saves in the final minutes of the first half to keep the Knights up 1-0
  • Second Half
    • The Knights were able to score after another corner kick opportunity as Lauren Kirkle assisted a Sami Webster goal in the 53rd minute to give Wartburg a 2-0 lead
    • Webster, Kirkle and Natalie Thiesfeld all had shots on goal in the following minutes that were all saved by Dominican
    • Dominican got on the board in the 58th minute after scoring following a corner kick
    • Wartburg responded in the 66th minute when Kenna Hemann found Skyler Oldenburg open for the Knights' third goal of the day
    • The Knights were able to hold off Dominican for a 3-1 road win
