No. 11/12 Women's Basketball Defeat Central 70-58 to Win 25th Straight A-R-C Game

WAVERLY, Iowa – No. 11/12 women's basketball (16-2, 9-0 A-R-C) continued its American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) winning streak after a 70-58 win at home over Central College (11-7, 4-5 A-R-C) on Saturday, Jan. 25.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • Lauren Woeste got the scoring underway with two baskets in the paint with assists from Lauren Donlea and Jaedon Murphy to make the score 4-2 early
      • After over four minutes of scoreless play, Murphy broke the drought with a bucket assisted by Woeste
      • Minutes later, both Murphy and Sara Faber connected from three-point range to give Wartburg a 12-3 lead with 1:28 left in the first quarter
        • After two Murphy free throws, Wartburg led 14-6 after the first
    • Second Quarter
      • Woeste and Faber both score early in the second to keep the Knights ahead 18-11 after just over two minutes of play into the second quarter
      • The Dutch responded with an 8-2 run that closed the Wartburg lead down to one point with 5:14 remaining in the half
      • Wartburg closed the half on a 15-5 run on 6/6 shooting from the field that pushed its lead back to 35-24
        • Faber and Woeste combined for nine of the 15 points during the run, while Donlea, Murphy, Natalie Bearbower and Grace Hennessy all scored during the run as well
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • Murphy scored the first six Wartburg points of the second half before Faber got to the line to add two more points and make the score 43-25 after almost two minutes
      • Central would not go away easily as two made three pointers led the Dutch to an 8-2 run that cut Wartburg's lead to 45-33 with 6:34 left in the third
      • Lauren Golinghorst, Faber and Woeste all scored for Wartburg before a Hennessy three pointer made the score 54-41 with just over three minutes left in the third
        • Murphy scored two more points at the free throw line to close the third quarter up 56-44
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Woeste and Faber each reached 16 points on the day after early scores in the fourth quarter from both
      • Central cut Wartburg's lead to 60-50 with 4:24 left to play that led to a Wartburg timeout
      • The Knights closed out the game with five points from Woeste, a three from Hennessy and a basket from Murphy to give Wartburg a 70-58 win
