Knights Return to A-R-C Play With an 82-70 Win Over Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Men's basketball got back into American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play today with an 82-70 win on the road over Simpson College on Saturday, Jan. 4. The Knights are now 9-4 overall and 2-2 in A-R-C play, while Simpson falls to 3-10 overall and 0-4 in A-R-C play.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • Marshun Williams scored the first two points of the game before Simpson went on an 8-0 run to take an 8-2 lead after just over four minutes of play
    • Williams stopped the run with a score in the paint and Isaac Besh followed up with a three pointer to cut the lead to four
    • Ethan Yungtum made a layup and then Richie Rosenblum and Williams both connected on three pointers to tie the game at 15
      • Rosenblum took the lead with a layup seconds later but Simpson responded with a 6-0 run to retake the lead 21-17 with 9:07 left in the half
    • Luke Ladwig scored in the paint to stop the run and then minutes later Williams and Besh both drilled three pointers for the Knights to give Wartburg a 25-23 lead with under five minutes left in the first
    • Wartburg made four threes in the final four minutes of the half to take a 38-34 lead into the break
      • Williams made two three pointers, Besh converted a four-point play and Rosenblum made the first of the four threes made to close the half
  • Second Half
    • Simpson was able to tie the game up at 38 before Ladwig connected on a three pointer to make it 41-38 after two and a half minutes of play
    • Scores from Austin Bienemann, Rosenblum and Ladwig helped push the lead to 49-42 and then Rosenblum made a three to give Wartburg a 10 point lead with 12:35 left to play
    • Rosenblum continued to stay hot as he scored the next four points and the Knights led by 15 points with just over 10 minutes remaining
    • The Storm continued to battle back into the game and cut the lead to as low as 10 multiple times over the next six minutes, but scores from Yungtum, Williams and Bienemann put Wartburg back up by 17 with 4:16 left to play
    • Williams threw down a dunk and then Rosenblum, Ladwig and Gabe Trujillo all scored at the free throw line in the final minutes to close out a 82-70 win over Simpson
