No. 10/11 Knights Down Dubuque 55-42; Britney Young Sets Career Three Point Record

WAVERLY, Iowa – No. 10/11 women's basketball (12-2, 5-0 A-R-C) stayed perfect in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play with a 55-42 win over the University of Dubuque (4-9, 1-3 A-R-C) on Wednesday, Jan. 8. In today's win, Britney Young made two threes to set a new career record for three pointers made in program history.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • The Knights got the scoring started with a basket in the paint from Jaedon Murphy and then a three pointer from Sara Faber a minute later to take a 5-0 lead early
      • Murphy added a three pointer with an assist from Lauren Donlea to give Wartburg a 8-0 lead with 7:12 left in the first quarter
      • It was all Dubuque the rest of the quarter as the Spartans closed the first on a 14-0 run over seven minutes of play
    • Second Quarter
      • Britney Young connected on a three pointer to begin the second quarter and minutes later Murphy scored two at the free throw line to cut UD's lead to 16-13 with just under seven minutes remaining
      • The Knights went on an 8-0 run led by three pointers from both Faber and Murphy to take a 21-16 lead with 5:32 left in the half
      • Wartburg continue to stay hot from behind the arc as the Knights closed the half out on a 14-4 run led by 4/5 shooting from three
        • Murphy, Faber, Natalie Bearbower and Young all made three pointers during the run to give Wartburg a 35-24 lead heading into halftime
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • The Spartans began the second half with an 8-0 run to cut Wartburg's lead to 35-32 after three minutes of play
        • The run was halted by six-straight points in the paint from Lauren Golinghorst and Murphy combined
      • Golinghorst scored two more points at the free throw line to bring her third quarter total to six, but the Knights did not score in the final 3:55 of play
        • After holding the Spartans to just four points after the 8-0 run, the Knights led 43-36 after three quarters
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Faber gave the Knights a spark to start the fourth quarter after recording a steal and going coast-to-coast for a three-point play
        • Grace Hennessy made a three pointer the next possession and then Faber got back to the line for two more free throws to put Wartburg ahead 51-36 two minutes into the fourth
      • After four minutes of scoreless play from both sides, Brylee Seaman ended the scoring drought at the free throw line to make the score 52-36 with 4:07 to play
      • Faber scored in the paint and Brooke Meeks put in two free throws to close out 55-42 home win for the Knights
