WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's soccer defended Salzwedel Field with a 1-0 victory over previously undefeated Loras College (9-1-5, 3-1-2 A-R-C) on Saturday, Oct. 18. The win moves Wartburg to the top of the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) standings with a 4-1 record in A-R-C play and an overall mark of 6-6-1.
Lwings Kabula scored the game-winning goal for the Knights with an assist from
Kaleab Wendy and
Flori Gembo.

- Following two off target shots from Loras in the first five minutes, Wendy recorded the first shot on goal with a header that was saved by Loras in the seventh minute
- The Knights had another opportunity in the 16th minute when Kabula created space and fired a shot on goal that was also saved by the Duhawks
- Gembo had a shot blocked that led to a Wartburg corner kick in the 28th minute, but Loras was able to keep Wartburg off the scoreboard
- Loras was able to record its first shot on goal in the 44th minute, but Joseph Svoboda was there to make the save for the Knights

- After defending an early corner kick from the Duhawks, Wartburg was close to breaking the tie in the 48th minute when Gembo beat his defender and fired a shot that missed just right
- Minutes later Gembo recorded another shot that hit the right post and deflected out of play
- Lwings Kabula broke the tie in the 62nd minute after receiving a pass from Wendy and burying it into the back of the net to give Wartburg a 1-0 advantage
- Gembo was credited with an assist as well for his set-up pass to Wendy
- Wartburg's defensive pressure continued to smother the Duhawks, as Loras did not record another shot until the 85th minute
- Both of Loras' final two shots of the match were off target and Wartburg closed out a 1-0 home victory
