Knights Honor Seniors, but Fall to Dutch

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College volleyball team (14-7, 4-2 ARC) dropped an American Rivers Conference match to the Central College Dutch (16-7, 2-2 ARC) in three sets on Senior Day in Levick Arena.

The Dutch won by set scores of 25-15, 25-21, and 26-24 in a match that featured 17 ties and five lead changes.

Anna Sash led the team with 10 kills, her 12th time this season with double-digit kills, and it put her over 200 kills for the season with 203. Sash total four blocks to lead the team. Whitney Klyn chipped in eight kills with three service aces.

Sophie Sedgwick and Haedyn Rebelsky each dished out double-digit assists with 15 and 12, respectively. Defensively, Peyton Robinson led the way with 17 digs to go with three service aces, and Sedgwick (15) and Klyn (16) joined Robinson in double-digit digs.

After a back and forth beginning to the opening set, the Knight found themselves trailing 6-10. The Dutch went on a 10-2 run to extend their lead 20-9. Wartburg crawled back, going on a 6-1 run to cut the deficit to 21-15. Central responded with four straight points, and Wartburg dropped the first set 25-15. Wartburg was held to a -.026 hitting percentage, with Central hitting .222.

Wartburg responded in the second set with a 6-1 opening run, including three services aces from Klyn. The Dutch and Knights traded points, before a timeout with Wartburg leading 11-7. Central knotted it up at 14 apiece and went on an 8-2 run, putting the score at 21-16. Wartburg battled, but Central took the second set, 25-21.

Wartburg and Central traded points early and often before the Dutch went on an 8-3 run to extend the lead 12-7 and force a pair of timeouts. The Knights answered with a 7-0 run to take the lead 15-13, behind Peyton Robinson (two service aces), Ashlynn Hodges (two kills), and Sash (two blocks) and two Central attack errors. Wartburg extended the lead to 19-15, but Central finished the set on an 11-6 run to take the final set with extra points, 26-24.

The Dutch held the Knights to a .138 hitting percentage, while attacking themselves at a .232 clip.

Wartburg dropped just their third match out of the past 11 matches against Central.
