INDIANOLA, Iowa – Men's soccer went on the road and tied with Simpson College 1-1 on Saturday, Oct. 25 after a late goal from
Kaleab Wendy forced the draw.
The Knights are now 5-1-1 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play and 7-6-2 overall, while Simpson moves to 2-3-3 in A-R-C play and 5-6-8 overall.
Match Summary
- First Half
- Wartburg applied pressure early and often on the Simpson defense with four shots on goal in the first four minutes
- After both teams were unable to get any shot opportunities after a corner kick for each team, Gembo fired another shot on goal in the 23rd minute that was saved
- Joseph Svoboda made his first save of the match in the 32nd minute
- Simpson broke the scoreless tie in the 40th minute when Tim Sedlock found the back of the net with an assist from Jack Hoppes to make the score 1-0
- The Storm took a 1-0 lead into halftime after two more saves from Svoboda
- Second Half
- Simpson had an early attempt that missed and deflected off of the right post and then minutes later Mmunga had a shot on goal saved by the Storm
- Kaleab Wendy had a shot just miss off of the right post in the 67th minute for the Knights
- Following a saved shot on goal from Kabula, Wendy was able to beat the defense and net the equalizer in the 82nd minute with assists from Gembo and Jacob Chickering
- Wendy missed a shot high in the 86th minute for a final scoring chance for the Knights, but the Storm held off a late Wartburg run to force a 1-1 draw
