LINCOLN, Neb. --Â The Wartburg College volleyball team (14-9) dropped a five set back-and-forth affair against Nebraska Wesleyan (15-7) in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Knights and Prairie Wolves alternated between the first three sets, with Wartburg taking set one 25-22, before the Prairie Wolves took the second set 29-27. Wartburg rallied in the third set with a 25-20 score. Nebraska Wesleyan took the final two sets 25-19 and 15-7.
Whitney Klyn and
Kaylee Koudelka led the Knights with 12 kills apiece. They were followed by
Leah Hayungs with nine and
Anna Sash with eight. Sash also recorded four service aces.
Sophie Sedgwick recorded a team high 21 assists, while
Peyton Robinson anchored the defense with 24 digs.
The first set was tightly contested, and after going down 3-4, the Knights went on a 7-1 run to go ahead 10-5. After going up 22-15 late in the set, the Knights held off a Prairie Wolves 5-0 run to win 25-22.
The second set was similar to the first, but Wartburg found themselves down 22-17. Wartburg went on a 5-0 run to tie the set at 22. After back-and-forth scored with each other, the Prairie Wolves took the set, 29-27.
The Knights jumped out to a 5-2 lead early in the third set, and never looked back, eventually winning the set 25-20.
Nebraska Wesleyan took an early advantage in set four, taking an 11-6 lead. Wartburg went on an 11-4 run to take a 16-15 lead, but Nebraska Wesleyan ended the set on a 10-3 run to win 25-19.
Nebraska Wesleyan took full control of the final set, going up 10-1 before fending off a Wartburg rally to win 15-7.
The Prairie Wolves held the Knights to a .187 hitting percentage, while hitting at a .259 clip.
