WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's basketball closed out the Buzz Levick Tournament with a dominant 99-74 win over Cornell College on Saturday, Nov. 15.
The Knights were led by 20-point double double performances from both
Ethan Yungtum and
Cael Schramm.
Game Summary
- First Half
- Yungtum scored the first points of the game with a three pointer with an assist from Luke Ladwig, but Cornell answered with 11 straight points to take an 11-3 lead after three minutes of play
- Yungtum converted a three-point play and then Austin Bienemann knocked down a three to cut the lead to 11-9 just one minute later
- Cael Schramm scored in the paint for the Knights before a 9-2 run from Wartburg brought the Knights in front 20-18 after scores from Ladwig, Yungtum and Schramm
- Drake Wemark connected on a three pointer to make the score 23-20, but Cornell responded with nine straight points to take a 29-23 lead with 8:36 left in the half
- Following a two minute scoring drought, Evan Gray provided a spark off the bench with five-straight points for the Knights to cut the Cornell lead to one
- The Knights continued on a 9-0 run to take a 40-32 lead with 3:02 left in the half
- Following a made three by Cornell, Wartburg closed the half on a 14-2 run highlighted by three pointers from Yungtum and Bienemann and six-straight points in the paint for Schramm
- Wartburg led 51-34 headed into halftime
- Second Half
- Gabe Trujillo. Yungtum and Schramm each scored a bucket in the paint to begin the first half and stretch the Wartburg lead to 20 points
- The Knights kept up the intensity on both sides of the ball as they continued to hold a 24-point lead after five minutes of play in the second half
- Ladwig scored four-straight points before Lyle Olsen nailed a three the next possession to make the score 76-49 with 12:43 left in the half
- The lead grew to 30 points with 10:25 to go after scores from Gray, Yungtum and Jamison Poe
- The lead grew to 35 points (93-58) at its highest after Bienemann and Mason Matson made threes on back-to-back possessions with 6:33 left to play
- Dominic Braet and Patrick Murtagh scored the final six points of the game for Wartburg as the Knights cruised to a 99-74 victory
