MOUNT VERNON, Iowa -- The Wartburg College volleyball team (15-11 overall) closed out its regular season Saturday afternoon with a straight-set defeat to Cornell College (17-10 overall).
The Knights will enter next week's American Rivers Conference Tournament as the No. 6 seed, set to face No. 3 Simpson College on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. in Indianola, Iowa.
Kaylee Anderson paced the Wartburg offense with eight kills on a .364 hitting percentage, while
Liv Anderson and
Anna Sash each added six kills. Sash also recorded the Knights' lone block of the match.
Offensively, Wartburg was held to a .024 hitting percentage, while Cornell finished at .122.
The Rams opened strong in set one, using an 8-0 run to build a 16-7 lead before taking the set, 25-11. Wartburg bounced back in the second with a 9-0 run fueled by
Kaylee Anderson, jumping ahead 19-10. Despite leading 22-13 late, the Knights saw Cornell rally with a 12-1 surge to steal the set, 25-22.
In the third, Wartburg jumped ahead early and later pulled within one at 18-17 following a kill from
Liv Anderson. The Rams closed the match on a 5-2 run to take the final set, 25-22, and complete the sweep.
