Knights drain season-high 14 threes in 80-71 win over Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Women's basketball went on the road and defeated Loras College 80-71 behind a season-best 14 made three pointers on Saturday, Dec. 13. Wartburg opened the game with nine made three pointers for its first 27 points scored.
 
The Knights are now 3-5 overall and 2-1 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play, while Loras is now 3-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • Emma Townsley, Lauren Golinghorst and Katie Boulanger all connected on a three pointer in the first minutes of the game to put the Knights in front 9-2 early
      • Loras anserwered with an 8-0 run to take a 10-9 lead before Katelyn Aden made Wartburg's fourth three of the quarter to put the Knights back in front 12-10 with 4:16 left in the opening quarter
      • The Knights continued their hot start from beyond the arc with three more three pointers over the next two minutes to push the Wartburg lead to 21-13
      • Golinghorst connected on her third three of the quarter (Wartburg's eighth as a team) in the final minutes of the quarter as Wartburg led 24-15 after one quarter
    • Second Quarter
      • Loras cut the lead to seven with a layup to begin the second quarter, but a minute later Aden drilled a three pointer to put the Knights in front 27-17
      • The Knights scored their first non-three point field goal of the game with 6:53 left in the half after Boulanger had a driving layup to give Wartburg a 29-20 lead
      • Wartburg went on a 9-0 run over the next two minutes after back-to-back steals from Reagan Pagniano that led to a layup and a three pointer
        • The Knights led 38-22 with 4:03 left in the half
      • Boulanger and Golinghorst combined for five more points to give Wartburg a 43-26 lead at halftime
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • Hennessy scored the first five points of the half for Wartburg to keep the lead at 17 points after a minute and a half of play
      • The scoring remained back and forth over the next three minutes as each team scored seven points to make the score 55-38 with 5:23 left in the third quarter
        • Boulanger scored five of Wartburg's seven points
      • The Knights added to the lead after a Laynee Hogan steal turned into a layup and then Rich made another three pointer to make the score 60-38 with 3:11 remaining in the quarter
      • An 8-4 Loras run to close the quarter cut the Wartburg lead to 64-46
    • Fourth Quarter
      • The Duhawks began the final quarter on a 7-0 run before Boulanger made two free throws to make the score 66-53 with 6:29 left to play
      • Wartburg went back in font by 15 after five-straight points from Aden followed by a score in the paint from Boulanger with 2:54 left to play
      • Loras closed the game on a 13-7 run, but it wasn't enough to overcome Wartburg's lead as the Knights won 80-71       
        • Scores from Henessy and Boulanger in the final minutes helped seal the Knights win
