Men's Basketball Cruise By Simpson 85-63 at Home

WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's basketball earned its second-straight American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) win with an 85-63 win over Simpson College on Saturday, Feb. 1. The Knights are now 12-8 overall and 5-6 in A-R-C play, while Simpson moves to 4-16 overall and 1-10 in A-R-C play.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • Wartburg jumped out to a 9-6 lead after Gabe Trujillo and Richie Rosenblum each hit a three pointer in the first four minutes of play
    • Marshun Williams scored four of Wartburg's next nine points and Isaac Besh added a three pointer, but the game was tied 18-18 with 11:09 left in the half
    • The Knights took a 31-28 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the half after four points each from Luke Ladwig and Williams
    • Austin Bienemann scored five for the Knights along with a made three pointer from both Trujillo and Besh to give Wartburg a 42-34 lead with 2:51 left in the half
    • Ladwig scored four more points along with another bucket from Bienemann to close the half with a 48-39 lead over the Storm
  • Second Half
    • Williams started the second half on fire as he made two threes and a layup to give Wartburg a 56-39 lead after five minutes of play in the second half
    • Simpson responded with a 5-0 run before Richie Rosenblum buried a three and Williams added another bucket in the paint to keep Wartburg in front 63-47 with 10:45 left to play
    • Following two minutes of scoreless play, Simpson cut into the lead with a 7-0 run that made the score 63-54 with 7:01 remaining
    • Williams scored five of the next nine Wartburg points to push Wartburg's lead back over 10 points (72-60) with 4:14 left in the game
      • Ladwig and Ethan Yungtum both scored two points each during the run
    • Wartuburg closed the game on a 13-3 run led by nine points from Ladwig for a 85-63 win over Simpson
      • Williams and Yungtum each also scored during the run
