UD Holds Off Men's Basketball 77-61; Williams Logs 14th 20-point Game of the Season

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Men's basketball fell to the University of Dubuque 77-61 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 12. The Knights are now 13-10 overall and 6-8 in A-R-C play, while the Spartans move to 17-5 overall and 11-2 in A-R-C play.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • Marshun Williams scored five points in the first two minutes of play after a three pointer and a made jumper to give the Knights an early 5-3 lead
    • Dubuque scored the next eight points to take a 11-5 lead before Luke Ladwig scored in the paint to make it 11-7 with 15:34 left in the half
    • UD went on a 13-7 run that extended the lead to 10 points, but Austin Bienemann cut the lead below 10 with a three pointer for Wartburg
    • Wartburg tried to cut into the lead, but UD was able to outscore the Knights 13-11 over the next five minutes to make the score 37-28 with 5:08 left in the first half
      • Drake Wemark led the Knights in scoring during the run with five points
    • Ladwig scored the final five Wartburg points of the half to make the halftime deficit 39-33
  • Second Half
    • After almost two minutes of scoreless play to begin the half, Richie Rosenblum nailed a three pointer to cut UD's lead to 39-36
    • Dubuque responded with an 8-2 run that gave the Spartans a 47-38 lead with 15:56 left in the second half
      • Ladwig scored the lone Wartburg basket during the run
    • A Bienemann steal and score followed by two made free throws from Williams made it an eight-point game with 12:57 remaining for the Knights
    • After two scores from Bienemann and three pointers from both Williams and Rosenblum, Wartburg trailed 59-52 with just under eight minutes left to play
    • Baskets from Williams and Ladwig kept the Knights deficit at seven points with 5:46 to go
    • UD closed the game on a 13-4 run to secure a 77-61 win at home
