Williams Breaks 70-Year School Record in A-R-C Tournament Loss to Nebraska Wesleyan

LINCOLN, Neb. – Men's basketball closed its American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament run with a 85-53 loss on the road to Nebraska Wesleyan University on Thursday, Feb. 27. With 17 points in the loss, Marshun Williams surpassed 580 total points this season to break a 70-year school record at Wartburg for points in a single season.
 
Wartburg closes the 2024-25 season with an overall record of 16-11 and an A-R-C record of 8-8.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • Williams scored the first basket of the game with a jumper, but the Prairie Wolves scored the next eight points to take an 8-2 lead after four minutes of play
    • Wartburg responded with a three pointer from Williams and a three-point play from Ethan Yungtum to shrink the NWU lead to 11-8
    • Gabe Trujillo scored four points for the Knights along with baskets from Luke Ladwig and Yungtum, but NWU stretched its lead to 27-16 with 8:23 left in the half
    • Despite scores from Williams, Ladwig and Austin Bienemann over the next five minutes, the Knights still trailed 39-22 with 2:57 left in the first half
      • Bienemann scored one more point from the line in the final minutes to make the score 43-23 at halftime
  • Second Half
    • The Knights came out of halftime on a 7-4 run in the first three minutes of play led by a three pointer from Trujillo
    • Nebraska Wesleyan was on a 10-4 run before Isaac Besh knocked down a three to make the score 57-37 with 12:40 left in the game
    • Wartburg outscored NWU 7-5 over the next three minutes after three points from Yungtum along with scores from Trujillo and Williams
    • Scores from both Ladwig and Williams cut the lead to 67-48 with 7:43 left in the game
    • The Prairie Wolves closed the game on a 18-5 run that gave NWU a 85-53 win at home
