No. 10/13 Knights Continue Winning Streak After Defeating Loras 72-53

DUBUQUE, Iowa – No. 10/13 women's basketball won its 11th-straight game on Wednesday, Feb. 5 after defeating Loras 72-53 on the road. The Knights are now 19-2 overall and 12-0 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play, while Loras moves to 8-12 overall and 5-6 in A-R-C play. 
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • The game got started with back-and-forth scoring that got started off with three pointers from Sara Faber and Jaedon Murphy to begin the game 6-6
      • Wartburg outscored Loras 8-6 over the next three minutes, led by seven points from Lauren Woeste, to take a 14-12 lead with 5:01 left in the first quarter
      • The Knights closed the first quarter on a 10-2 run with all 10 points coming in the paint from Murphy, Woeste, Faber and Brylee Seaman to take a 24-14 lead
    • Second Quarter
      • Murphy scored the first basket of the second quarter with a three pointer to stretch Wartburg's lead to 13 points
      • Lauren Golinghorst scored from the free throw line before a Faber drive and score that made the Wartburg lead 30-16 with 5:56 remaining
      • Loras went on a 10-5 run that cut Wartburg's lead to nine points with 2:22 left in the half
        • Britney Young connected on a three and Golinghorst scored in the paint for the Knights
      • Lauren Donlea found Woeste in the paint to close the half with a basket that put the Knights ahead 37-26 at halftime
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • The second half scoring got started with a layup from Woeste with an assist from Murphy followed by a layup from Murphy with an assist from Woeste the next possession
      • Following a Loras score, the Knights went on a 6-0 run with four more points from Woeste and a driving score from Faber to give Wartburg a 47-28 lead with 5:49 left in the third quarter
      • Loras made four three points over the next three minutes of play to cut Wartburg's lead to 54-41 with just over two minutes remaining in the quarter
        • Faber, Young and Murphy all scored during the Loras run
      • The Knights closed the quarter with a layup from Golinghorst, a three pointer from Young, and then a Murphy steal led to a score from Donlea to give Wartburg a 61-41 lead after three quarters
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Woeste and Faber both added to their point totals with scores early into the fourth quarter to keep the Knights ahead by 22 points
        • Woeste scored again minutes later to make the score 67-43 with 5:45 left in the game
      • Loras responded with an 8-2 run to cut the Wartburg lead to 69-51
      • Natalie Bearbower closed out the game for the Knights with a three pointer to give Wartburg a 72-53 win
