No. 10/13 Women's Basketball Shut Down Nebraska Wesleyan 81-38

WAVERLY, Iowa – No. 10/13 women's basketball shut down Nebraska Wesleyan University for a dominant 81-38 victory at home on Saturday, Feb. 8. The Knights are now 20-2 overall and move to 13-0 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play, while NWU is now 1-20 overall and 0-12 in A-R-C play.

  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • Lauren Woeste and Lauren Donlea got the scoring started with early baskets for the Knights before Sara Faber found an open Jaedon Murphy for three to give Wartburg a 7-2 lead with 6:49 left in the opening quarter
      • Wartburg went on a 8-3 run over the next two minutes to take a 15-5 lead following four points from Lauren Golinghorst and baskets from Murphy and Woeste
      • The Knights allowed just one more score in the last three minutes of the quarter and took a 23-7 lead after one quarter of play
        • Faber and Murphy both connected on a three pointers during the run
    • Second Quarter
      • Woeste got the second quarter started with a basket in the paint before the Knights continued the run with a three from Donlea and a floater from Britney Young to push Wartburg's lead to 30-9
      • After back-to-back scores from NWU, Emma Townsley made a corner three with an assist from Golinghorst to keep Wartburg ahead 35-13 with 3:39 left in the half
      • Wartburg closed the first half on a 9-3 run led by four points from Murphy, three from Golinhorst and two points from Brylee Seaman
        • The Knights led 44-16 at halftime
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • The Knights came out of halftime on fire as they torched the Prairie Wolves for a 15-0 run to start the second half thay ballooned Wartburg's lead to 59-16 after five minutes of play into the third quarter
        • Woeste (seven points) and Murphy (five points) combined for 12 of the 15 points, while Young connected on a three points to round out the scoring run
      • Nebraska Wesleyan responded by outscoing Wartbug 8-7 in the fina four and a half minutes of play in the third quarter
        • Golinghorst scored five of Wartburg's final seven points of the quarter
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Woeste scored the first four points of the fourth quarter for the Knights and then Young followed it up with her second three pointer of the day to make the score 73-28 with 6:37 left to play
      • Golinghorst made her second three pointer of the day before scores from Ava Trettin and Brooke Meeks put the final touches on a 81-38 win for the Knights
