Knights sweep DePauw

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.—The Wartburg softball team (11-8 overall) swept DePauw Sunday to conclude competition at the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament. The Knights won game one 4-3 on a walkoff triple and won the finale 6-4 in eight innings.
 
Game one:
  • The Orange and Black took the early 3-0 lead in the first on three-straight RBI singles from Bella Mulder, Rylie Metz and Riley Feeley
  • The Tigers answered with three runs in their next at-bats
  • Wartburg threatened in the fourth and fifth innings as it had a runner on third, but was unable to advance home
  • DePauw did not have a baserunner advance past second for the duration of the game
  • In the seventh with one out, Hassel hit a triple to right center field that scored Sydney Fellows for the winning run
 
Top performers  
Game two:
  • The Knights were the visitors in game two and took the early 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single from Bredar
  • DePauw took the lead in the second with two runs
  • A solo homer from Fellows in the third knotted it at two all
  • The Orange and Black were retired in order in the next three innings
  • In the bottom of the seventh, DePauw looked to walk it off a runner on first and second with two outs. The next batter singled to centerfield, but the runner was thrown out at home trying to score to send it to extra innings
  • In the eighth, Wartburg plated four which included a two-run single from Jenna Wiebenga
  • The Tigers scored two in the bottom of the frame and had runners on the corners with two outs. The next batter grounded out to first to end the rally and seal the sweep for the Knights
