Knights Continue Play in Florida with a 13-3 Win Over Saint Mary's University

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Baseball continued play at the RussMatt Invitational with a 13-3 win over Saint Mary's University (Minn.) in eight innings on Tuesday, Mar. 4.
 
Game Summary
  • 1st Inning
    • The Cardinals struck first with one run across in the first inning after a passed ball
    • Wartburg responded in the bottom half when a Carter Stubitz single scored Eliot Jurgensen and Zach Walton to give Wartburg a 2-1 lead
  • 3rd Inning
    • Stubitz scored in the bottom of the third after a fielder's choice from Andrew Robinson brought him home to add to the Wartburg lead
  • 4th Inning
    • An RBI single from SMU in the fourth inning cut Wartburg's lead to 3-2
  • 5th Inning
    • Keegan Schmitt put Wartburg back up by two runs after a solo-shot homerun to left field made the score 4-2
  • 6th Inning
    • The Knights continued to add to their lead the following inning when Will Armstrong singled to score Cole Grider and push the lead to 5-2
  • 7th Inning
    • SMU scored another run from an RBI single in the top of the 7th to make the score 5-3 headed to the bottom of the seventh inning
    • With one out, Schmitt hit his second solo homerun of the game to left field before Stubitz doubled and Gehrig Turner walked
    • Liam Bender pinch hit and hit a double that scored Stubitz and then Caleb Andrews placed a perfect sacrifice bunt to bring home Turner and make the score 8-3
  • 8th Inning
    • Jurgensen doubled to begin the eighth inning and then was brought home by a Walton single
    • Bender reached base on an error that also scored a run and then Andrews singled to drive in his second run of the game and make the score 11-3
    • Grider ended the game with a triple that scored both Andrews and Bender to make the final score 13-3
