Knights bow out of A-R-C Tournament in semifinal

INDIANOLA, Iowa—The Wartburg softball team (24-15 overall) fell 4-3 to Nebraska Wesleyan (30-11) Saturday in the A-R-C Tournament semifinal. 
 
First inning
  • The Prairie Wolves hit a leadoff triple to deep right field
  • After the next batter grounded out to third, the next batter hit a fielder's choice as Hannah Luellen fielded the ball and threw out the lead runner at home as she tried to score
  • NWU hit a single to shallow right field to put runners on 1st and 2nd
  • The next batter tripled down the right field line which scored two for the early lead at 2-0
  • Stephanie Kiefer singled to rightfield to score Sydney Fellows and Reagan Hassel moved to third to make it 2-1 NWU
  • Jenna Wiebenga hit into a fielder's choice and the pitcher threw home to get Hassel
Third inning
  • Reagan Hassel doubles to left which drives in Happ from first to knot it at 2-2
Fourth inning
  • With two outs and a runner on second, NWU hit a single to center to score the runner to take the 3-2 lead
  • Carley Bredar hits a shallow single down the right field line to score Feeley, ties it at 3-3
Sixth inning
  • NWU hits an RBI single to right to score one for the go-ahead run at 4-3
Seventh inning
  • Wartburg had runners on first and second with one out
  • The next two batters struck out swinging to end the threat of a rally
Top performers
  • Hassel: 2-4, 1 RBI
  • Kiefer: 1-3, 1 RBI
  • Bredar: 1-2, 1 RBI
 
Notes:
  • Kiefer moved her reaches base safely streak to seven games
  • The Knights still own the series lead at 14-7 over Nebraska Wesleyan
  • The Knights are 19-9 in the conference tournament (since 2006)
