Baseball Falls to Nebraska Wesleyan in A-R-C Tournament Elimination Game

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The 2025 season came to an end for Wartburg baseball today after falling to Nebraska Wesleyan University in an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament elimination game on Friday, May 9.
 
The Knights close the 2025 season with an overall record of 21-20 and an A-R-C record of 12-12.
 
Game Summary
  • First Inning
    • Nebraska Wesleyan turned a leadoff walk into a run after an RBI single in the top of the first brought home the first run of the game
    • Wartburg answered in the bottom half after Eliot Jurgensen doubled to the right center field gap and was eventually scored following a Carter Stubitz fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1
  • Fifth Inning
    • After a scoreless second, third and fourth inning, Nebraska Wesleyan added two runs to its total after an RBI single and an RBI double that made the score 3-1
  • Sixth Inning
    • The Prairie Wolves continued their momentum into the sixth inning, where NWU loaded up the bases for Easton Johns, who doubled to bring two more runs across
    • NWU singled to bring home one more run and push the lead to 6-1 headed to the bottom of the sixth
  • Eighth Inning
    • Nebraska Wesleyan added two more runs after compiling a single, double and triple in the eighth inning to bring the score to 8-1
    • Wartburg began the bottom of the eighth with a leadoff double from Zach Walton, who was brought home by a Keegan Schmitt single and a Griffin Troha double to make the score 8-2
    • Charlie Krueger brought one more run across for the Knights in the eighth with a sacrifice fly that scored Schmitt and cut the NWU lead to 8-3
  • Ninth Inning
    • Will Armstrong made an appearance on the mound for Wartburg in the ninth and held the Prairie Wolves scoreless to send the game to the bottom of the ninth
    • Both Jayden Scott and Armstrong singled to begin the final frame, but the Knights were unable to mount a comeback as the Prairie Wolves held off Wartburg for an 8-3 win
