WAVERLY, Iowa – Men's soccer was defeated 2-1 after battling the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) at home at Salzwedel Field on Saturday, Sept. 13. The Knights are now 1-3-1 overall and MSOE moves to 3-2-1 overall.
Match Summary
- First Half
- Aidan Mott recorded the first shot on goal attempt in the match in the fourth minute and then in the 7th minute, he gave Wartburg a 1-0 lead after finishing a great cross from Kadin Bolin
- MSOE responded in the 26th minute following a corner kick that led to a Raider goal to tie the match at 1-1
- Following the goal kickoff, Diego Sanchez had a shot just miss wide right and then a blocked shot of his led to a Wartburg corner kick
- MSOE was able to hold off the Knights attack to keep the match tied 1-1
- MSOE was the beneficiary of a Wartburg own goal late in the first half to make the score 2-1 at halftime
- Second Half
- Blake Whitlow and Alima Mmunga both had shots on goal saved by MSOE early into the second half as Wartburg continued to attack the MSOE defense
- Wartburg kept the intensity on both sides of the ball, but were unable to finish any scoring opportunities
- Kaleab Wendy had a shot saved in the 67th minute and then Wartburg was able to draw a penalty kick in the 87th minute, but the kick was off-target to keep the Knights down 2-1
- MSOE was able to hold off Wartburg for a 2-1 win
