Women's Soccer Dominant in 5-1 Win Over Augustana

WAVERLY, Iowa – Women's soccer put on a dominant display at Salzwedel Field on Wednesday, Sept. 17 with a 5-1 win over Augustana College. Both Sami Webster and Nikayla Youngblut each scored two goals in the win for the Knights.
 
Wartburg is now 3-5 overall and Augustana moves to 2-4-1 overall this season.

  • First Half
    • Youngblut got the scoring started early when she beat her defender and then angled a deep shot past the keeper to make it 1-0 Wartburg early
    • The Knights continued to attack when Kenna Hemann fired a shot on goal in the sixth minute that was saved by the Vikings
    • Augustana made six saves over the next 25 minutes after shots on goal from Youngblut, Webster and Maya Anderson
    • Wartburg led 1-0 headed into halftime
  • Second Half
    • Youngblut struck again in the 50th minute with another unassisted goal to put the Knights ahead 2-0
    • A minute later, Wartburg was back on the board when Claudia Sewell found Webster who finished with a score to give Wartburg a 3-0 lead
    • Sheets fired a shot on goal that was saved in the 62nd minute, but it deflected to a wide open Webster, who tapped in a wide open goal for Wartburg's fourth of the night
    • The Knights added a fifth goal in the 73rd minute when Allison Smith had a shot saved by the keeper before Anderson played the deflection and found the back of the net to put Wartburg in front 5-0
    • Augustana's first shot on goal resulted in a goal in the 77th minute that was a high looping shot from well past the penalty arc from Augustana's Jordyn Swanson
    • Tulla Jensen made a late save in the 89th minute to close out a 5-1 victory for the Knights
