WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College volleyball team (8-5 overall, 1-0 A-R-C) opened conference play in commanding fashion Tuesday night, powering past Luther College (4-11, 0-1 A-R-C) in straight sets inside Levick Arena. The Knights served up their second-most aces with 14 in the 25-13, 25-18, 25-12 sweep.Â
Kaylee Koudelka led the attack with a match-best nine kills, while
Anna Sash and
Kaylee Anderson each added seven. Wartburg hit a season-high .329 on 36 kills, while holding the Norse to just .061 on 21.Â
Setter
Sophie Sedgwick dished out 19 assists and
Aspen Falk chipped in 11. Behind the service line,
Alexa Melcher starred with a career-high seven aces to pace Wartburg's serving dominance.Â
Wartburg and Luther traded points early in the opening set before the Knights broke it open with a 9-0 surge, highlighted by four straight aces from
Alexa Melcher to make it 14-5. Another late run sealed the frame, 25-13, as Wartburg piled up 17 kills, including four each from
Liv Anderson and Klyn. Setter
Sophie Sedgwick tallied 10 assists in the set alone.Â
Wartburg never trailed again, using a late 6-1 surge to seal the second set 25-18 before cruising in the third, 25-12.Â
Luther was limited to -.036 hitting in the final frame, its lowest mark of the night.Â
