ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Wartburg College volleyball team (5-1 overall) extended its winning streak to three games after sweeping the Saint Paul Tournament with a pair of wins over Hamline University and St. Catherine University on Saturday.
Wartburg 3, Hamline 1
Wartburg surged back with three-straight set wins after falling in the opening set to defeat Hamline in its first game of the day. The Knights dropped the first set, 26-24, before securing the last three, 25-17, 25-17, and 25-14.
Whitney Klyn put up a match-high 14 kills - also a new season-high.
Anna Sash and
Kaylee Koudelka each had nine kills to total the Knights' fourth 40+ kill game with 48.
Wartburg matched its school-record mark of 16 service aces, a mark that dates back to Oct. 9, 2004, against Illinois-Springfield. Sophie Sedwick served five aces to lead the Knights, as
Aspen Falk sat behind her with four – five different Knights were credited with an ace.
The Orange and black attacked at a .264 mark – their second highest this season (.300 vs. Olivet).
The four-set match featured 20 ties and 12 lead changes.
Wartburg 3, St. Catherine 1
A defensive masterclass was shown by the Knights, limiting the Wildcats to just .034 attack percentage. Wartburg rejected seven St. Catherine attempts, led by
Anna Sash's four.
The Knights dominated set one, 25-11, followed by a set two score of 25-20. St. Catherine topped Wartburg in the third set, 25-21 to avoid the sweep. In the final set, the Orange and Black took advantage of six Wildcat attack errors to improve to 5-1 on the season.
Sash provided a career-high 17 kills on a whopping .467 percentage to lead the offensive attack.
Whitney Klyn also recorded a double-digit kill effort with 11. Sedgwick tallied 23 assists with nine digs, as
Peyton Robinson dug out 21.

Wartburg rides its three-game winning streak to the Loras Tournament, set for Friday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 13 in Dubuque, Iowa. The Knights will open play with a Friday doubleheader against Edgewood at 3 p.m., followed by Saint Mary's University (Minn.) at 5 p.m.
