PELLA, Iowa – Men's basketball fell to Central College 75=69 in a back-and-forth American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) battle on Saturday, Jan. 17.
Game Summary
- First Half
- A Gabe Trujillo steal led to an Austin Bienemann dunk for the first points of the game before each Trujillo and Bienemann scored a basket to make the score 6-2 early
- The Dutch scored seven-straight points to take a 9-6 lead after six minutes of play
- After falling behind 14-6, Wartburg scored the next eight points to tie the game up at 14-14
- Bienemann scored six-straight for the Knights, capped off by a athletic alley-oop finish to make the score 21-20 with Central still in front
- Wartburg got scoring contributions from Luke Ladwig, Ethan Yungtum, Bienemann and Schramm in the final minutes before half, but Central held a 31-29 lead at the break
- Second Half
- Schramm scored four-straight points for the Knights following an opening score from Yungtum to begin the second half
- Central was able to continue to hold a small lead over the Knights the next three minutes of play despite four points from Trujillo and three from Ladwig
- The Knights responded with an 11-0 run led by seven points from Schramm to take a 53-46 lead over the Dutch with just under nine minutes left to play
- Matson connected on a three pointer, but Central was able to cut the lead to 57-56 with 4:54 remaining in the second half
- Both Schramm and Bienemann scored to put Wartburg in front 61-59 with 3:23 left, but Central scored the next nine points to regain a 68-61 lead with 1:09 left to go
- Ladwig scored six points in the final minute, but the Dutch held off Wartburg 75-69
