CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --- The American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) announced its weekly honors on Monday, Oct. 12 with Wartburg men's soccer sweeping both Offensive and Defensive Performer of the Week honors.
Â
After defeating Loras and Simpson to begin A-R-C play,
Diego Sanchez earned this week's offensive honor from the A-R-C and
Carson Kay earned this week's defensive honor from the conference.
Â
Sanchez was last week's top offensive threat in the A-R-C as the Sophomore recorded game-winning goals in each contest to move his goal total to four this season. He was ultra-efficient this week, scoring both goals on two total shots. The Mundelein, Ill. native has now scored in two-straight matches and in three of his last four matchups. Sanchez also added his first assist of the season in a 3-0 win over the Storm. The Offensive POTW honor is Sanchez's first career A-R-C weekly honor.
Â
Kay was the A-R-C's top defenseman this week after helping lead the Knights to back-to-back shutouts to begin conference play. In Wartburg's 1-0 win over Loras, Kay recorded an assist to the game-winning goal following a corner kick. The Adel, Iowa native has now recorded three assists this season from his defender position. The junior played 170 out of 180 possible minutes this week to help anchor a defense that allowed just seven total shots on goal between two matches. This is Kay's third career A-R-C weekly honor and first since 2024.
Â
Kay, Sanchez and the Knights will continue A-R-C play this week at home against Buena Vista on Tuesday, Oct. 13 before closing the week on the road in Pella, Iowa against Central on Saturday, Oct. 17.
