CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Wartburg (10-3-3, 6-1-0) defeated Coe (7-11-1, 2-5-0) 3-2 on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Lwings Kabula and
Carson Kay each scored in the first half with assists from
Alima Mmunga and
Flori Gembo before Gembo added an unassisted second-half goal that kept the Knights in front 3-2.
With today's win, Wartburg has earned the second overall seed and a first-round bye headed into the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Tournament.
How It Happened
First Half
- The Knights generated three corner kicks and three shots between 4:39 and 6:12, with attempts from
Flori Gembo,
Lwings Kabula and
Carson Kay.
- Coe went ahead at 12:49 on Jake Keebler's goal, assisted by William Shaw and Dylan Pagel, before Kabula equalized at 15:10 off an
Alima Mmunga assist.
- Coe followed with four shots and two corners from 16:34 to 17:32, including one save by
Caleb Cross, but the Orange and Black moved in front at 23:15 when Kay scored from a Gembo assist.
- The Knights added chances from Mmunga, Kay and
Maximus Mendez after taking the lead, while Cross made another save at 37:18 as the half closed with no additional goals.
Second Half
- The Orange and Black generated the early pressure with eight shots and four corner kicks from 46:47 to 62:10, while Coe goalkeeper William Shaw saved attempts by Kabula,
Diego Sanchez twice and Gembo.
- Gembo scored at 65:50 to make it 3-1, and Cross saved Jonah Lasselle's shot at 67:41 on Coe's next recorded attempt.
- Coe pushed late with three shots and three corner kicks from 76:19 to 86:40 before Nolan Loftin scored from a James Napieralski assist at 87:04, but the Knights finished off the 3-2 win.
