CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Wartburg College sophomore wrestler
Jake Walker has been named the American Rivers Conference Male Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league.
Walker (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock) improved to 10-2 on the season after earning a clutch 4-2 decision over No. 7-ranked Jonah Clark of Loras College, helping No. 1 Wartburg College secure its sixth consecutive American Rivers Conference title with a 26-6 win on Thursday.
Trailing 2-1 late in the third period, Walker delivered the decisive takedown with 25 seconds remaining to seal the victory and his 10th win of the season. The result marked one of two upset victories for the Knights in the dual.
With the win, Wartburg captured 33 of the last 34 A-R-C titles and pushing its conference dual winning streak to 50 straight.
