Knights Roll Past Spartans 73-44

WAVERLY, Iowa – Women's basketball held the University of Dubuque to 19 total second-half points in route to a 73-44 win at home on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
 
The Knights extend their winning streak to 11 games and are now 15-6 overall with an American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) record of 11-1.
 
Game Summary
  • First Half
    • First Quarter
      • The Knights began the game with a post move from Corrie Harrison that led to a three-point play before Katie Boulanger knocked down a three pointer to make the score 6-0 after two minutes
      • Harrison scored again in the paint and then Hennessy nailed a three pointer to push the Wartburg lead to 11-5
      • UD responded with a 7-2 run to cut Wartburg's lead to one point with just under four minutes left in the first
      • The Knights closed the quarter with three three pointers after two makes from Boulanger and one make from Carly Rich to give Wartburg a 22-16 lead
    • Second Quarter
      • Harrison and Boulanger combined for six points in the early minutes of the second quarter to give Wartburg a 28-20 lead
      • A three pointer from Lauren Golinghorst followed by another bucket from Boulanger pushed the Knights' lead to 33-21 with 3:23 left in the half
      • UD outscored the Knights 4-0 over the next three minutes to cut the lead to eight points, but Wartburg closed the half with a three pointer from Hennessy brought the Knights back in front by 11 (36-25) headed into halftime
  • Second Half
    • Third Quarter
      • After two minutes of scoreless play to begin the second half, Wartburg scored the next seven points to take a 43-25 lead following scores from Harrison, Boulanger and Lauren Donlea
      • Following UD's first points of the second half, Boulanger made two free throws before both Rich and Hennessy each connected from downtown to push the Knights' lead to 51-27 with 4:18 left in the third
      • The Knights continued the run with scores in the paint from Golinghorst and Ally Poegel to give Wartburg a 55-30 lead headed to the fourth quarter
        • Wartburg held UD to just five third-quarter points
    • Fourth Quarter
      • Harrison began the final quarter of play with two baskets in the first two minutes as the Knights pushed the lead to 31 points
      • UD outscored the Knights 8-4 over the next two and a half minutes to cut the lead to 65-38 with 5:09 left to play
      • Wartburg closed out the final minutes with another score from Poegel in the paint along with three pointers made from both Katelyn Aden and Sydney Lamkin to give Wartburg a 73-44 win at home
