Knights Outscore BVU 26-0 in a Senior Day Sweep Behind a Full Team Effort

WAVELRY, Iowa --- Softball (22-8, 7-1) shut out Buena Vista (6-19, 0-2) across both games in today's senior day doubleheader, winning game one 8-0 in five innings before taking game two 18-0 in another five-inning contest.
 
Both Hannah Hoefer and Katelyn Klever pitched complete games for the Knights, with the first-year duo each dealing one-hit shutouts against the Beavers.
 
16 different Knights registered a hit between both games, including first career hits for Sophie Stanic, Madi Petersen and Madde Buskohl. 19 different Knights saw action in-route to a season-high 18 runs in game two of the series.
 
 
Game Summary
  • Game One
    • Second Inning
      • Through two innings of play, Addy Wells recorded Wartburg's lone hit and the Beavers remained hitless to keep the score 0-0 headed to the third inning
    • Third Inning
      • Following a one-two-three inning from Hoefer and the Wartburg defense, the Knights used three hits in the bottom half to take a 1-0 lead
        • Wells singled and stole second base which led her to take third base on a throwing error to set up a sacrifice out from Jenna Wiebenga
        • Bella Mulder doubled and Liz Kruckenberg singled to follow, but the Knights were unable to bring any more runs across to keep the score at 1-0 headed to the fourth

      • The Beavers recorded their first hit of the game in the fourth inning before Wartburg blew the game wide open with a five run bottom of the fourth from six hits and one error
        • Alexis Larson led the inning off with a double before back-to-back bunt singles from Ally Happ and Carley Bredar brought Larson home for a run
        • Wells bunted for her third hit of the day to load the bases for Wiebenga, who singled down the left field line to bring two more runs across and make the score 4-0
        • Wells scored on a fielding error before Stephanie Kiefer singled to score Wiebenga and push the Wartburg lead to 6-0

      • The Knights closed the game in the fifth inning with a three-up and three-down top of the fifth before bringing the needed two runs across before BVU recorded an out
        • Happ and Bredar each singled to begin the bottom of the fifth before a Reagan Hassel single up the middle scored Happ
        • Following a double steal and Wells reaching base, Wiebenga ended the game with a single up the middle that brought home Bredar and closed an 8-0 win

    • First Inning
      • Following a hitless top of the first for the Wartburg defense and Klever in the circle, the Knights unloaded nine runs from nine hits and one error in the bottom half of the opening inning
        • Following singles from Bredar and Hassel, Wells continued to swing a hot bat and singled to bring home Bredar and put the Knights in front 1-0
        • Both Mulder and Klever recorded RBI singles to push the lead to 3-0
        • A Kruckenberg two RBI triple cleared the bases and made the score 5-0
        • Bredar recorded her second hit of the inning to bring in one run and then Happ scored on a wild pitch to keep the inning rolling
        • Mulder's second RBI single of the inning gave Wartburg a 9-0 lead headed to the second inning

      • BVU recorded its first hit in the top of the second, but was unable to bring any runs across
    • Fourth Inning
      • The Knights put up a monster nine-run inning in the bottom of the fourth from seven total hits and one error that gave Wartburg an 18-0 lead
        • Buskohl led the inning off with a single before Stanic stepped to the plate and delivered a pinch-hit home run to left center field
        • Kaylee Mescher walked and then Rylie Metz smashed a home run to left center field to add another two runs to the Knights' total
