DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Wartburg College baseball team (22-14 overall, 13-11 A-R-C) capped its regular season with a straight sweep of the University of Dubuque with a 10-1Â victory Sunday afternoon at Dan W. Runkle Baseball field.
With the win, the Knights secured their highest conference win total since the 2018 campaign with their 13th today.
Andrew Robinson added to the record-setting day in the seventh inning, getting hit by a pitch for the 25th time this season to mark a new single-season program record. The Knights also set a team single-season mark with Robinson's same pitch to total 81 – tops the previous record held in 2024.
Wartburg will continue its season in the American Rivers Conference postseason tournament as the No. 4 seed on Thursday, May 7.Â
Dubuque (12-26, 7-17 A-R-C) threatened in the bottom of the first with a pair of hits and a walk all with two outs; however, Wartburg starter
Nicholas Nin (5-2) was able to get out of the jam with a flyout to center to keep it scoreless after one.
Bode Nagelmaker tallied the Knights' first hit of the ballgame in the second before
Keegan Schmitt loaded the bases on a six-pitch walk. The Spartans held it at zero with two flyouts to end the frame.
Robinson doubled to open the third, as the Knights had the bases loaded within their first three hitters with
Jayden Scott following with a single and an
Andrew Gallegos walk.
Charlie Krueger saw another walk to give Wartburg the 1-0 lead.
Tanner Jackson flied out on a sacrifice fly to plate Scott to round out a two-hit, two-run frame for the Knights.
Griffin Troha led off the fourth inning with a double into right center to set up Scott's two-run longball to give Wartburg a four-run cushion, before Nin set Dubuque down in order in the bottom half.
The Spartans found their only run of the game in the fifth, as
Kam Volz made his entrance on the hill for Nin with one out. Â
In the sixth, both Robinson and Scott produced one-out singles to see Gallegos blast his ninth homer of the season with a three-run shot to give Wartburg a 7-1 lead.
Zach Byrne made his tenth appearance of the year in the bottom half, replacing Volz who allowed a pair of hits in an inning of work.
After Schmitt singled in the seventh, Troha brough him around on a single to center to make it 8-1, as
Tanner Jackson rounded the bases for the fourth time with a solo shot in the eighth lead 9-1. The Knights added a run in the ninth thanks to Gallegos' fourth RBI of the game to secure the 10-1 victory.
