Ryan Doty '13 wrapped up his seventh season on the Wartburg coaching staff in 2020 after a successful career as a pitcher and second baseman for the Knights. Doty has worked with the pitching staff and catchers in his time as an assistant with the program that has won three-straight IIAC Regular Season Championships. The Knights have improved their team ERA over the last four seasons and ranked ninth-best in DIII in 2017 (3.12). In addition, their strikeout to walk ratio ranked 12th best in DIII in 2017 (2.96:1).
Doty has coached five All-Region selections, including First-team honoree and Iowa Conference pitcher of the year, Taylor Gilson. He has also mentored nine All-Conference honorees.
Doty was a member of the 2013 Iowa Conference regular-season and conference tournament Championship team. He is the program's all-time leader in strikeouts/nine innings and had 20 wins on the mound in 207.1 innings pitched which ranks tenth-best and ninth-best, respectively on the career leader list. His 2.46 career ERA is fourth-best all-time and he ranks in the top ten in six other career categories. He set the former single game school record with 13 strikeouts and accomplished this twice in his career. Doty set the single season record with 104 strikeouts his junior season.
Doty was a three-time All-Conference selection which included being named the Iowa Conference's Pitcher of the Year his senior season. He was a two-time All-Region selection.
