Matt Tschetter

Matt Tschetter ’12 is in his eighth season on Wartburg's staff in 2025. He coached Owen Grover, the 2023 NCAA Division III Cliff Harris Award winner, the D3football.com National Defensive Player of the Year, the two-time D3football.com Regional MVP and two-time Conference Defensive MVP. 

Prior to his return to Waverly, he was at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., for three seasons where he was the co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. During the summer of 2021, Tschetter was promoted to the team's defensive coordinator. 

During his time at Randolph-Macon, the Yellow Jackets won the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship and qualified for the NCAA Playoffs. He coached the 2016 ODAC Defensive Player of the Year and Cliff Harris Award finalist in Cole Burdette. Tschetter mentored six All-Conference selections and three All-Region players in his time with the program.

Tschetter was a defensive line coach at Wartburg during the 2014 season. The Knights won the 2014 Iowa Conference championship and advanced to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Playoff. Tschetter also was a graduate assistant at UW-Platteville for two seasons where he coached three All-Conference selections and helped the Pioneers advance to the second round of the NCAA Playoffs in 2013.

On the field, Tschetter was a two-time First-team Iowa Conference selection on the defensive line for Wartburg. He was named Third-team All-Region by D3Football.com and Third-team All-American by D3proday.com in his senior season. The Knights won the 2008 and 2010 IIAC Conference championships and advanced to the NCAA Playoffs in both seasons. The team also advanced to the Elite Eight in the 2008 season.

Tschetter earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in fitness management from Wartburg in 2012 and his master's degree in education from UW-Platteville in 2014.
