Matt Johnson was named the Wartburg men's soccer assistant coach in June of 2020. He comes to Wartburg after two years as an assistant men's soccer coach at Johnson & Wales University-Denver. JWU-Denver is a Division III member of the nationally recognized Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. He also coached a strong boys team for Real Colorado club soccer during his time in Denver.Â
A Colorado native, Johnson is a 2012 graduate of the University of Minnesota-Morris, where he was a four-year letterwinner, two-year team captain, and two-time First Team All-Conference honoree. Johnson went on to earn a master's degree in Sports Coaching at the University of Northern Colorado in 2013.Â
Prior to JWU, Johnson spent two seasons at his alma mater as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's soccer programs, and three years as the assistant women's soccer coach at Cochise College in Douglas, AZ. He holds a USSF "C" License and an NSCAA "National" Diploma.
