Mike Madigan

Mike Madigan enters his ninth season at Wartburg in 2025.

In his first season, Ben Johnson earned Third-team All-Region honors by the United Soccer Coaches Association. During the 2023 season Coach Madigan led the Knights to its first American Rivers Conference Tournament Championship and NCAA appearance since the 2014 season. Brennon Woody was named a United Soccer Coaches All American as well as A-R-C Defensive MVP during the 2023 season. Three Knights were also named Academic All-Americans by United Soccer Coaches under Madigan in 2023. 23 Knights have been named All-Conference in his time in Waverly.

In 2023 and 2024, Madigan led the Knights to back-to-back A-R-C Tournament titles and NCAA Tournament berths for just the third time in program history.

Madigan came to Wartburg from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. where he served as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator since 2012. The Scots won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) championship in 2015 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament that season. In addition to his assistant coaching duties, he was the assistant facility manager for the Leonard Center where he helped with event management and supervised over 100 work study employees.

Prior to Macalester, Madigan was an assistant coach at George Washington University for two seasons and a volunteer assistant coach for one season. In 2011, the Colonials won the Atlantic 10 regular season championship and advanced to the championship game in the conference tournament.

Madigan was an assistant coach and head goalkeeper coach for four years at the prestigious Shattuck-St. Mary's college preparatory school in Faribault, Minn. The team reached the 2008 U.18 Boys US Youth Soccer National Final during his tenure.

The Stevens Point, Wis. native graduated from Macalester in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. Madigan was a four-year goalkeeper for the Scots that won the MIAC Championship three times and subsequently qualified for three NCAA Tournaments. Macalester advanced to the Elite Eight in 2002. Madigan was named All-Conference, All-Region and finished third in NCAA Division III in goals against average that season.

He was a reserve goalkeeper on the Minnesota Thunder professional soccer team from 2004-05.

Madigan holds the following certifications: USSF A License, USSF National Youth License, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and NSCAA Advanced National Goalkeeper Diploma.
