Chris Gustas

Chris Gustas (pronounced GUST-us) enters his 10th season as the head men's and women's tennis coach at Wartburg College in 2025-26. Gustas is the career coaching wins leader at Wartburg in both the men's and women's programs. The 2018-19 women's team both set school records in wins, and won their first conference title as the women's coaching staff earned A-R-C Coaching Staff of the Year honors. The 2021-22 men's team set the school record in wins. 

Gustas comes to Wartburg from Simpson College where he was the assistant coach for a season. Prior to Simpson, he was the varsity coach for two seasons at Dubuque Wahlert, leading the team to a ranking as high as No. 2 in 1A in 2015. Gustas also has experience coaching at Indianola, Marion and Western Dubuque High Schools. He has coached five place-winners at the Iowa State Championships. Gustas has also worked as a tennis teaching professional at the Alpine Tennis Club in Dubuque. 

The Marion, Iowa, native was a four-year member of the Wartburg tennis program and graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in education. Prior to returning to Wartburg, Gustas taught high school science for four years.
