Wartburg remains unbeaten in IIAC

STORM LAKE – A three-goal second half outburst guided Wartburg College to a 4-0 Iowa Conference win at Buena Vista Oct. 20.

The Knights (9-5 overall, 6-0 IIAC) broke through a strong defensive effort from their hosts (5-11, 1-6 IIAC) in the opening half when junior midfielder Nathan Gottsacker (Bloomington, Ill.) scored in the 15th minute. The second half rally started in the 64th minute when senior midfielder Eric Peters (Bartlett, Ill.), added a goal and continued through scores from sophomore forward Brandon Cook (Bondurant) and sophomore midfielder Amir Kantarevic (Waterloo).

Wartburg held a 22-7 shots advantage. The duo of senior Brandon Busbee (Hiawatha) and freshman Cade Shatzer (Hudson) kept the Orange and Black goal clean with the team’s fifth shutout the year.

Coach Kirk Artist’s squad continues its season hosting the University of Dubuque Saturday, Oct. 23. Match time is 3 p.m. The Class of 2010-11 members will be recognized prior to the start.

Notes – Cook’s second half goal tied him for the team lead (five) with senior forward Jon Farrell (Washington, Mo.) … Peters’ goal moved him into a tie for third (four) with senior midfielder Lucas Prater (Springfield, Mo.) … Gottsacker’s first goal of the season was also the first game-winning goal of his career. … Other firsts belonged to Kantarevic (first goal) and freshman forward Jared Nelson (Johnston) (first points – two assists).
