Late rally subdues Knights

WAVERLY – Senior midfielder Lucas Prater (Springfield, Mo.), led the way for Wartburg College in a Senior Day 2010 match Oct. 23.

In five shot attempts, he scored two goals and also dispatched an assist during a 5-3 Iowa Conference loss to Dubuque. The Knights (9-6 overall, 6-1 IIAC) got off the mat from a 3-1 first half deficit behind a Prater penalty kick conversion and a goal from fellow senior midfielder Eric Peters (Bartlett, Ill.), to tie the score at 3-3 just three minutes into the second frame.

Dubuque (13-3, 6-1 IIAC) forced a tie with the Orange and Black on the league standings board with two goals less than two minutes apart from 65:31-67:03 en route to a 5-3 win. Coach Kirk Artist’s team tried to saw back into the deficit down the stretch but couldn’t add to their total.

The Orange and Black wrap up their regular season home slate when UW-Platteville visits the campus soccer field Wednesday, Oct. 27. Start time is 6 p.m.

Notes – Prater’s multiple-point finish was his fifth of the season. He picked up four in a 10-1 win at Cornell for his previous year’s best. … Peters has tallied goals in three of his last four matches. … A trip to Simpson winds up the 2010 league slate. Start time is 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30.
