Central College of Pella visits Levick Arena in the Wartburg-Waverly Sports and Wellness Center tonight for 6 p.m. women’s and 8 p.m. men’s tipoffs to start a two-game Iowa Conference schedule for Wartburg College.
The Knights continue the week by traveling to the Small Multi-Sport Center on Cornell College’s campus in Mount Vernon Saturday, Jan. 29. Game times are 2 and 4 p.m.

KNIGHTS NOTES: Women – In the last game, a second half comeback by Wartburg fell just short Jan. 22 in a 74-69 loss to Coe. The Kohawks bolted out to an 18-9 lead early and built the margin to as much as 14 in the second half. However, the Orange and Black chipped away and trailed only 67-64 after junior forward Emily Timmermans (Vinton) converted a three-point play with 1:04 left. Coe worked the shot clock down to five seconds on its next possession and hit a long three-pointer from the top of the key to re-extend the lead to six. Timmermans guided the Orange and Black on the scoring chart and on the boards. She finished the afternoon with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds to go with one steal. Senior guard Samantha Harrington (Nashua) was next on the board with 12 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals. Senior center Katie Zittergruen (Van Horne), moving her double-figure scoring streak to three games, also wound up in double figures with 10 points. … Harrington only needs two more points to reach Wartburg’s top 10 in career scoring. She is also two three-pointers away from having 200 for her career. Timmermans’ 10 boards against Coe marked the third time this season and fourth time in her career that she reached double digits on the glass. Last weekend’s double-double was the first of her career. … Timmermans’ play over the last four games has helped her points per game average go up one to 4.7 and rebounds per game move up seven-tenths to 5.4. … Junior guard Stephanie Reiter (LaPorte City) has recorded a steal in six straight contests and two-or-more in four times.
Men – Junior forward Jordan Sathoff (Packwood) put the wraps on a big week of Iowa Conference play Jan. 22. Sathoff turned in 18 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots in an 82-72 loss to Coe. Over a three-game, six-day schedule, he finished with 72 points (24 per game), 26 rebounds (8.7 per game), and hit better than 50 percent from the field. Peth’s team also placed junior forward Kirk Sidey (Greenfield), junior forward Cole Danielson (Marshalltown) and freshman guard Tanner Kramer (Hayfield, Minn.), in double-figure scoring last weekend. Sidey finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists, Danielson added 10 points, six rebounds and two steals, and Kramer finished with 10 points. Coe hit over 53 percent from the field and over 71 percent from outside the arc to race out to a 44-22 lead. Wartburg rallied to as close as nine points (65-56) in the second half but could get no closer. … Danielson upped his double-figure scoring streak to nine straight. … Sathoff has a six-game double-figure scoring string going and has seen his scoring average rise nearly four points (13.4-17) in the span. … The duo continues to close in on 300-point seasons, with Sathoff 11 short and Danielson 16 away. …Sidey’s game against Coe continued a strong recent run. His scoring and rebounding averages are up eight-tenths to 8.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game over the last five games. He’s also hit 54 percent or better from the field four times in the span. … Sophomore guard Trevor Dismore of Vinton also shined in his performance against Coe. He went four-of-five from the field and one-for-two from beyond the arc, grabbed three rebounds and ended with nine points in 16 minutes.
NEXT WEEK: Wartburg goes to Luther for the final regular season series clash with the Norse Wednesday, Feb. 2. The Orange and Black return home to take on Buena Vista Saturday, Feb. 5.
