WAVERLY – A late first half run by visiting Central College turned out to be the key in Wartburg College’s 66-57 Iowa Conference loss Jan. 26.
The Knights (6-12, 1-9 IIAC) roared out to an 18-6 lead nine minutes in. The Dutch (10-8, 6-4 IIAC) caught their hosts at 24-24 just under six minutes later en route to a 31-28 halftime lead. Central used an 8-2 roll to start the second half and pushed the margin to nine. Wartburg got it back to six midway through the stanza but couldn’t get any closer.
Another strong performance from the junior forward tandem of Cole Danielson (Marshalltown) and Jordan Sathoff (Packwood)led the Knights. Danielson, reeling off his 10th consecutive double-figure scoring game, tallied 23 points and seven rebounds. Sathoff added his fifth double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 boards to go with four blocked shots. Freshman forward Eddie Diemer (Cedar Falls) added eight points.
Wartburg takes to the road Saturday, Jan. 29, for a 4 p.m. tipoff against Cornell College in the Small Multi-Sport Center in Mount Vernon.
NOTES – Sathoff’s double-double was his third in the last seven games. He takes a seven-game double-figure scoring streak to Cornell. … Danielson’s double-figure stretch has been even more impressive due to his being at-or-above 20 points six times. He’s also hit at least three-pointer in 10 straight with multiples eight times.
