Wartburg Defeats Cornell

WAVERLY, Iowa—The Wartburg men’s soccer team (7-8-0 overall, 3-3-0 IIAC) defeated Iowa Conference opponent, Cornell (1-15-0, 0-6-0 IIAC) Wednesday night, 4-1.

Newcomer Dan Nadeau (White Bear Lake, Minn.) led the team with his five points on the night with two goals and one assist.

He put the Knights on the board just 43 seconds into the game and netted his second goal at 13:58.

Julian Peota of the Rams, cut the lead to one with his goal at 21:42.

Classmate Phillip Tran (Cedar Falls) scored his first goal of the season on a pass from sophomore Jared Nelson (Johnston) to take the 3-1 lead at 27:39.

Junior Tommy Running (Bloomington, Minn.) connected on a pass from Nadeau and put his first goal of the year in the upper right corner of the back of the net.

Wartburg held the team advantage in shots (21-7).

The Orange and Black return to the field Saturday when they travel to face Iowa Conference opponent, Coe at 1 p.m.
