Knights Host Dutch in Home Finale

WAVERLY, Iowa-- The Wartburg football team (5-2 overall, 3-2 IIAC) hosts Iowa Conference opponent, Central (6-2, 5-1) in its final home game of the season Saturday at 1 p.m.

At Home: The Orange and Black are 44-11 since Walston-Hoover Stadium opened in 2001.

A Look Back at Last Week:
The Knights were off from competition last weekend.

In its last game against Simpson on Oct. 16, the Storm won 38-37 in overtime as they blocked the Orange and Black’s extra point kick attempt.

Junior runningback Brandon Sims (South Holland, Ill.) was one touchdown shy of tying the Knights’ single game school mark as he finished with four rushing touchdowns on the day, which also set a new career-high. The school record stands at five set in 1997 by Trevor Shannon.

He also recorded his first 100-yard rushing game of the season as he had a net gain of 101 yards.
Senior quarterback Dan Stiefel (Sterling Heights, Mich.) threw for 211 yards and was 21-29 with no interceptions.

Classmate Levi Helbling (Malvern) led the receiver group with 10 receptions for 90 yards.

Junior Jason Shupp (Cedar Rapids) led all defenders with his 10 solo tackles and one assist.

A Look at Central:
Central defeated Cornell 49-17 last weekend. The Dutch rolled for 529 yards, including 340 yards and six touchdowns on the ground to complete an undefeated home season last weekend.

Running backs Ross Doehrmann and Josh Osborn rushed for 115 and 95 yards, respectively. It was Doehrmann’s first 100-yard game of the season and Osborn’s career high. Osborn had two touchdowns in a span of 2:03 in the second quarter, including a 64-yard jaunt, while Doehrmann had one TD and S-back Preston West had two scores and 50 yards on 10 carries. Quarterback Nate Snead also had a score while running for 12 yards on five carries.

The Orange and Black take to the road for their final two games of the year against Loras and Luther.
