Wartburg Narrowly Falls to UW-Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis.--  The Wartburg men’s soccer team (5-5-0 overall) narrowly fell 3-2 to UW-Platteville (6-7-1) Wednesday night as the game-winning goal was scored with 20 seconds left.

Humper McMahon gave the Pioneers the early lead with his goal at 1:14 into the game.

Junior Austin Otto (Coralville) would capitalize on a pass from classmate Brandon Cook (Bondurant) at 8:37 to even the score.

Brandon Schmiel gave UW-Platteville the 2-1 lead with his goal at 22:14.

The Knights were awarded a penalty kick which junior Kris Krohn (Cedar Rapids) put his attempt into the back of the net to knot the score once more.

Ryan Melmeel scored the game-winner with 20 seconds remaining in the game on his header off the corner kick.

The Orange and Black return to the field Saturday when they host Iowa Conference opponent, Simpson at 3:30 p.m.
