NORTHFIELD, Minn.—The Wartburg College men’s basketball team defeated Carleton College 51-48 Tuesday night in its season opener.
 
Senior Jordan Sathoff (Packwood) led the Orange and Black with his 17 points and also added seven rebounds. Junior Mitchell Murphy (Cresco) joined him in double digits with 12 points.
 
Wartburg led 20-19 at halftime.
 
In the second half, Carleton built its lead to seven points four minutes into the frame but Wartburg answered with a 5-0 run over the next three minutes to whittle the margin to two with 13:44 remaining.
 
The score was knotted at 45-45 with 3:17 remaining. Wartburg compiled a 7-3 run and a missed three-point attempt by Carleton as time expired sealed the win for Wartburg.
 
The Orange and Black held the Knights to a 29.4 percentage from the field and won the battle of the boards (40-28).
 
Wartburg returns to its home court for the annual Buzz Levick Tournament Friday and Saturday.
