Wartburg continues strong run

Boxscore

DUBUQUE – A 14-5 run early in the second half helped propel Wartburg College to a 76-66 win over the University of Dubuque Feb. 16.

Coach Dick Peth’s Knights (10-13 overall, 5-10 IIAC), winning their fourth game in the last five, were knotted with the host Spartans at 34 at the break. After holding a slight 36-35 edge early on, the big stretch occurred to give the Orange and Black a 50-40 lead they never relinquished.

As has been the case down the stretch, the junior forward duo of Jordan Sathoff (Packwood) and Cole Danielson (Marshalltown) paved the way. Danielson, en route to his 15th straight double-figure scoring game, posted 23 points on seven-of-12 shooting (58.3 percent), while Sathoff, recording his 12 consecutive double-figure contest, was just two rebounds shy of a double-double with 23 points and eight boards to go with three steals and three blocked shots.

Wartburg finished with strong shooting in all three phases. The Knights were 54.2 percent from the field (26 of 48), 40 percent from beyond the arc (six of 15) and 78.3 percent from the free throw line (18 of 23). They also out-rebounded UD 34-29.

The Knights close the 2010-11 season with a 4 p.m. tipoff inside Loras College’s Athletic Wellness Center in Dubuque Saturday, Feb. 19.

NOTES: Sathoff, with 1,025 points, is just 15 shy of moving into No. 27 on the program’s career scoring list. … Danielson’s double-figure scoring streak is made even more amazing due to seven 20-point-plus efforts.
